FASCINATING NORTH INDIA
Day 1 Delhi
Arrive Delhi-the capital of India and transfer to your hotel. Later in
the afternoon visit the various historical sights of New Delhi including
the "Raj" buildings of Lutyens and Baker, the Qutub Minar, built
by the slave king Qutub-ud-din Aibak in the 12th century, and Humayun's
Tomb, a precursor to the Taj Mahal. Spend the evening at leisure and overnight
stay at hotel.
Day 2 Delhi -- Jaipur
Morning visit the busy bazaars of Old Delhi as well as Jamia Masjid, the
largest mosque in India, and Rajghat - the "samadhi" of Mahatma
Gandhi. Later in the afternoon drive to the desert capital and ‘pink
city’ Jaipur.
Day 3 Jaipur
This morning proceed for the hilltop Amber Fort; elephant ride to the
fortress can also be arranged. On your way back from the fortress visit
a small factory for hand printed fabrics.
Later in the afternoon take a city tour of Jaipur that includes-- the
Palace of Winds, Jantar Mantar, the City Palace, the museum and the colorful
bazaars of Jaipur, considered a shopper's paradise.
In the evening return back to hotel for overnight stay.
Day 04 Jaipur -- Ranthambore
Today morning drive to the land of tigers -- Ranthambore, famous for the
tiger that can be still seen in its purest natural surroundings here.
Enjoy an afternoon game drive, looking for the elusive monster in the
open forest. Evening, return to hotel for overnight stay, in Ranthambore.
Day 05 Ranthambore
Continue your jungle tour from where you have left yesterday. Enjoy game
drives both in the morning and afternoon and return to hotel for overnight
stay.
Day 6 Peharsar (Bharatpur)
Your journey today will take you from the deepest of jungle to the scenic
and rustic ambience of Peharsar with bullock carts and goats, artisans
at work, mud houses, women congregating near wells, men tilling land,
the elderly smoking "hookahs", curious children trailing you
- an unhurried existence. Go sightseeing in Peharsar and evening return
to the elegant Chander Mahal Haveli for overnight stay.
Day 7 Bharatpur -- Fatehpur Sikri -- Agra
Proceed to Bharatpur early morning. Bharatpur is one of the finest water
bird sanctuaries in the world and home to over 300 species of birds. Upon
arrival you will visit the sanctuary on cycle-rickshaws. Later drive to
the nearby phantom capital of the Mughal Emperor Akbar-- Fatehpur Sikri.
A short drive from Fatehpur Sikri will take you to Agra, where you will
halt for two nights.
Day 8 Agra
Enjoy city sightseeing in Agra including the poetry in marble - the Taj
Mahal and the Agra Fort. Later spend the afternoon at leisure and overnight
stay at hotel.
Day 9 Jhansi--Khajuraho
Morning take a short and exciting train ride in air-conditioned comfort
to Jhansi. Afternoon stop and have lunch at Orchha Resorts, overlooking
the Betwa River. Later you will be visiting the various temples and palaces
at Orcha and then proceed on to khakuraho for overnight halt.
Day 10 Khajuraho
In the morning visit the famous Chandela dynasty temples of the 950 and
1050 AD. These magnificent temples are famous for their unique erotic
sculpture. Afternoon, free to enjoy the rustic charm that Khajuraho has
to offer. In the evening enjoy a son et lumiere show and then return to
hotel for overnight halt.
Day 11 Varanasi
Board your flight to reach Varanasi by noon. Varanasi is one of the holiest
and oldest living cities to be seen in India. Afternoon, free at leisure
or visit Sarnath, the site of Buddha's first sermon. Enjoy a rickshaw
ride to the Ganges to witness the ceremonial worship or "aarti"
on the riverbanks at dusk and then return to hotel in Varanasi for overnight
stay.
Day 12 Varanasi Delhi
In the morning free at leisure and later transfer to the airport to board
your flight back to Delhi.
Met on arrival and transferred to your hotel / residence / airport.
