Day 01: DEPARTURE FLIGHT
Excel Airways from Gatwick (South Terminal) overnight flight to Delhi.
Day 02: DELHI
On arrival you will be welcomed by your driver and guide and transferred
to the Imperial Hotel. This afternoon there will be a tour of New Delhi.
Designed and built by the British in the 1920's, it is a city of wide
boulevards, impressive government buildings, green parks and gardens.
You will visit two monuments from Delhi's past – Humayun's Tomb
and Qutub Minar – then return to your hotel via the ceremonial avenue,
Rajpath, past the imposing India Gate and Parliament House.
Day 03: AGRA
This morning drive to Agra (200 km/41/2 hours) and check in to The Oberoi
Amarvilás. Later, visit Agra Fort before continuing to the magnificent
Taj Mahal, an eternal monument to the enduring love of the Emperor Shah
Jahan for his wife Mumtaz.
Day 04: JAIPUR
After breakfast, drive to Jaipur (235 km/5 hours), visiting the deserted
city of Fatehpur Sikri en route. On arrival in Jaipur, check in to The
Oberoi Rajvilás.
Day 05: JAIPUR
After breakfast, proceed to the impressive Amber Fort, spectacularly located
on the crest of a rocky hill. In the afternoon, enjoy a city tour of Jaipur
including the City Palace Museum, resplendent with its collection of royal
robes, carpets and armoury. Also visit the Jantar Mantar Observatory,
built in 1726. Finally, there will be a photo stop at the lovely Hawa
Mahal (Palace of Winds) – a five-storey pyramidal façade
of overhanging windows with latticed screens, domes and spires.
Day 06: RANTHAMBORE
Drive to Ranthambore (165 km/4 hours) and check in to The Oberoi Vanyavilás.
Afternoon game drive* in Ranthambore National Park. The Park encompasses
an area of more than 400 square km and is dotted with a number of water
holes and lakes fed by several rivers. The Park takes its name from the
10th century fortress, which looms above the forest, making Ranthambore
a very unusual area where a natural present meets an historic past.
Day 07: RANTHAMBORE
Early morning and evening game drives in the Park, with time in the afternoon
to relax. Ranthambore is home to the increasingly elusive Indian tiger.
Other game includes chitals, nilgais, jackals, panthers, jungle cats and
extensive wildfowl.
Day 08: DELHI
Drive to Jaipur airport and connect with a short flight to Delhi. Transfer
to the Imperial Hotel on arrival. This afternoon take a cycle rickshaw
ride through Old Delhi. Here you will visit the Red Fort, the most opulent
Fort and Palace of the Moghul Empire built in red sandstone. Also visit
Raj Ghat, the memorial site of the Mahatma Gandhi; Jama Masjid, the largest
mosque in India; and Chandni Chowk, the bustling and colourful market
of the old city.
Day 09: RETURN
After a leisurely morning, transfer to the airport for the daylight flight
to Gatwick.
